The newly founded DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY – based in Lorient, France – welcomes and empowers young sailing talents to grow their skills by being part of the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM.

The DMG MORI SAILING TEAM established by DMG MORI CO., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “DMG MORI”) in October 2018, founded the DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY to empower young talents to work in offshore sailing and to grow their skills by being part of the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM. Candidates can now apply as a skipper trainee. The trainee will have access to a brand new Mini 6.50 prototype boat for the 2022-23 season, finishing with the 2023 Mini Transat. Program start is in February 2022. Applications can be sent in until 31st August 2021.

Knowledge transfer and fostering young people have always been part of DMG MORI's corporate philosophy. Therefore, the newly founded DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY, which is based in Lorient, France, aims to empower young talents to work in offshore sailing and to grow their skills by being part of the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM. The skipper trainee program supports and develops young sailing talents by giving them the opportunity to race on a Mini 6.50 prototype boat. Motivation, team spirit and willingness to surpass oneself are key drivers to be part of the trainee program. The goal set: the successful participation in the Mini Transat 2023. On the way there, the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM accompanies the young talents with professional sailing coaching as well as valuable insights into boat building, electronics, and project management.

The DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY is looking for a Mini 6.50 Transat Rookie. A strong technical academic background (preferably an engineering degree) is required. The candidate must be willing to be part of the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM and highly motivated to make this journey together as a team. The DMG MORI SAILING ACADEMY is also looking for one or two co-skippers to compete in double handed races with the main skipper.

Within the program the trainee will have access to a brand new Mini 6.50 prototype, built by the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM, with which she/he will train and race. The running costs will be covered as part of this Trainee Program. The trainee will receive a salary to cover living expenses. In return, when not training or racing, the trainee will work for the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM helping the technical team. The aim is to create the basis for continuous development and to get to know all the technical aspects of a high-tech offshore sailing boat, teamwork and team spirit.

The application process starts 1st July 2021 and is open until 31st August 2021. The candidates are asked to show their motivation in a written application. In the next round of the application process, suitable applicants will be invited to interviews. The last round of the application is the invitation for the final candidates to Lorient, France to get to know the DMG MORI SAILING TEAM and to proof their sailing knowledge on water. Start of the program is in February 2022.
